Based in the German city of Hamburg, Tobias Wüstefeld is an expert at creating miniature worlds. Each has a unique atmosphere and is full of detail for the viewer to relish, and he often brings these little worlds to life in animation.
This fascination with creating tiny sets began when Tobias was young. He saved up and bought an old SLR camera and photographed scenes he created with toy dinosaurs and garden plants. Building up his set design skills, today he renders scenes with the latest 3D software.
Tobias majored in Illustration and Media Design at Münster, and later spent two years lecturing there which taught him a lot about his own practice.
Approach
Tobias takes a playful approach to image making, considering various solutions for each brief by experimentation. He’ll sketch different versions to help decide on which route to take. Most of his work is done using 3D software, and recently he’s been exploring 3D scanning and the use of virtual reality tools like Oculus Rift.Styles
Much of the work in Tobias’ portfolio focuses on creating new settings, and inventing charming and unusual worlds. His skills also extend to highly realistic 3D objects, stylish cutaway renders and fascinating character concepts. He can animate in a range of styles – cartoony, claymation, vector, hi res CGI and more.
