Every pore, smile line, shadow and highlight is captured and meticulously shaded by hand in the sublime portrait work of Austrian illustrator Patrick Rosche. But there’s far more to his art than its perfect detail – with each brief he reflects a feeling, giving his client’s project something special that helps it stand apart from the rest.
Based in Vienna, Patrick works in a range of media, always making sure there’s a handmade quality to his creations. It gives his work a tactile look, and an individual finish. Trained as a graphic designer in Stuttgart, Patrick was already illustrating for agencies while he studied, quickly building a reputation with top clients. He’s fast, friendly and accommodating, and draws on the wide variety of faces and personalities in Vienna for inspiration.
Patrick’s influences range from street artists such as Maclaim Crew, Etam and Bezt through to great painters like Caravaggio and Rembrandt.
Approach
Often, Patrick can visualise the artwork in his head before he begins, or he will explore the possibilities through rough sketching. He works with pencils, acrylics and oils, creating everything by hand before making slight improvements at the end of the process in Photoshop.Styles
Capable of producing work that is highly detailed and realistic, Patrick balances this with rougher and edgier elements to ensure the final product feels fresh, vibrant and handmade.
