Chelsy Escalona

With lively colours, strong central characters and eclectic, even mystical elements, Chelsy’s work draws on a wide range of ideas and influences. There’s the folklore, music and architecture of her Cuban heritage, mid-century modern interiors, Zentangle-inspired textures, lofi music and let’s not forget her deep appreciation of cats. Clients are always excited by the detail and colour of her work, and the impact it makes. Now based in Berlin, Chelsy has developed an appealing, contemporary style and her own visual voice – one that speaks of a new world of creativity in print, online and in NFT artworks. She graduated in Graphic Design from the Superior Design Institute at the University of Havana in 2015.

Approach

Chelsy works digitally, but everything is drawn by hand in Procreate. Compositions begin with the main character, but a great deal of attention goes into the detailing and texturing to create micro-stories within each image.

Style

Often described as Pop Art or Neo Pop, Chelsy’s style relies on strong line work, bright colour palettes, an imaginative variety of influences and texturing that provides depth and believability.
