The built environment is more than just a canvas for graffiti artist and illustrator Beto Fame – it’s the inspiration for his unique style and visual language. A trained architect with a passion for urban art, he deconstructs buildings and cityscapes to create imagery with a whole new perspective on the world around us.
Based in Rio de Janeiro, Beto works for clients across Brazil and around the globe. He has a degree in architecture from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, but has nurtured a passion for graffiti since he was 13. Combining the two is a creative masterstroke by the artist whose clients love his epic murals and the intelligence behind his compositions.
As well as the urban landscape and its dwellers, he’s inspired by Soul, R&B and Hip Hop, while his architectural influences include Álvaro Siza, Aires Mateus, Campo Baeza, Oscar Niemeyer and Paulo Mendes da Rocha.
Approach
Beto experiments with scale and perspective, mixing graphic and geometric forms to challenge the viewer’s expectations while still creating harmonious compositions featuring bursts of colour and street art elements. He uses pen and paper, Photoshop and Procreate to develop his illustrations.Style
Bold and abstract, with a dramatic sense of structure, Beto’s work viewed up close retains the handmade feel of street art and architectural illustration thanks to his brushstrokes.Languages
Beto speaks Portuguese and English.
