Based in Brooklyn, New York, Victoria Skovran has developed a style of fashion illustration that’s lively and vivacious. She often centres on the model’s face, then builds around that powerful focal point to craft an image with strong lines and plenty of spirit.
Though she also works as a graphic designer, Victoria’s passion is fashion and drawing is her favourite creative outlet. She’s inspired by the major labels like Gucci, Acne Studios and Valentino, but she also likes the inspiration that fashion bloggers like Rachel Marie, Eugenie Grey, Mindy Plaz and Danielle Victoria bring to the scene.
The styles of the 70s and 90s appeal to Victoria most, and maybe this is reflected in the fact that she named her cat Bowie. Future plans include a USA road trip, and visits to Iceland, New Zealand and Paris.
Approach
An image starts with Victoria’s mechanical pencil hitting the paper, where she draws strong, deliberate lines to form the main composition with very little shading. Then it can go in one of two directions. It might be scanned into her computer for further work and colouring in Photoshop. Alternatively, to give it more interest she’ll paint in some watercolours by hand before applying the finishing touches digitally.Style
Victoria’s style is clear and simple, yet sophisticated and with touches of playfulness about it. Her use of colour is carefully controlled – most images are black and white with hints of colour to bring emphasis.
