From jungle adventures to baking sparkly cupcakes, a world of discovery awaits in the children’s illustrations of Brazilian artist Andressa Meissner. Graphic, colourful and painted with feeling, her fun and friendly characters invite children to use their imaginations and learn new things about the world around them.
Based in the city of Curitiba, Andressa creates vibrant children’s books for publishers and authors, as well as commercial imagery for campaigns aimed at kids. She dives into each story and each brief, connecting the narrative with the audience and emphasising the key messages with meaningful imagery and memorable touches of detail.
With a degree in graphic design at the Federal Technological University of Paraná in Brazil and a post-graduate degree in Creative Illustration at the University School of Art and Design in Barcelona, Andressa is influenced by the children’s illustrator Mary Blair, as well as contemporary illustrators including Carter Goodrich, Gonzalo Carcamo and Luísa Rivera.
Approach
Andressa begins by understanding the audience and the essence of project, looking for sparks of wonder and fresh perspectives to bring into her art. Several sketches are explored, and she experiments with colours to find the right mood before painting the final image in Photoshop.Style
Using bold forms and primary colour palettes, Andressa’s style is clear and graphic, but has a soft, natural touch to it thanks to the real-world details and textures she uses.Languages
Andressa speaks Portuguese and English.Awards
