Based in Connecticut, Victoria Skovran has a vivacious style in fashion illustration that centres on the model’s face, then builds around that strong focal point to craft an image with bold lines and plenty of spirit.
Her background as a graphic designer means she’s a consummate professional when it comes to understanding a client’s brief, and her drawing skills always lead to a fresh outcome. Following fashion bloggers like Rachel Marie, Eugenie Grey, Mindy Plaz and Danielle Victoria she’s deep into the scene and loves the styles of the 1970s and 1990s.
Approach
An image starts with Victoria’s mechanical pencil hitting the paper, where she draws strong, deliberate lines to form the main composition with very little shading. Then it goes in one of two directions. It might be scanned into her computer for further work and colouring in Photoshop. Alternatively, to give it more interest she’ll paint in some watercolours before applying some finishing touches digitally.Style
Victoria’s style is clear and simple, yet sophisticated with touches of playfulness about it. Her use of colour is carefully controlled – most images are black and white with slight hints of colour to bring emphasis.
