Scoop

Lee Hodges Scoops up a magazine cover!

Lee Hodges was thrilled to be commissioned to illustrate the latest front cover of innotive new literary magazine Scoop. Aimed at children aged 8+ and launched in September 2016, the magazine boasts some of the biggest names in children’s literature amongst its contributors. Their aim is to enthuse children about the written word in as many ways as possible. It’s not only about books; it’s about all forms of story-telling told by the very best story-tellers! Lee's engaging illustration is for issue 12 and the theme is Crime. Lee tells us a bit more about the brief: "The brief was to create a cover with a strong central image. They asked me to interpret elements of three articles, one about children in jail in Victorian times, the other about how knitting was used to pass coded information in the second world war and the last was about Graffiti. The use of a limited colour palette really helped inspire this and create a strong leading image(with my initial sketches on a giant chalk board!), the other elements such as the strands of knitting and code just seemed to flow perfectly around the image."
