First Point

A bright mural painted by Vicky Scott greets visitors to Sheffield council.

The large mural is situated inside one of Sheffield City Council's buildings, Howden House - a key office and home to 'First Point', a drop-in centre for members of the public for all local council-related enquiries.

Vicky's artwork needed to reflect this community aspect as well as being a relaxing and uplifting piece of public art. She explains, "The hoarding that I painted was huge, 8 panels measuring 8 foot high by 4 foot wide! I approached the brief by having one side in the glorious sunshine and focusing on some of the city's famous landmarks (the theatres, the Women of Steel statue, the Arts Tower). The other side of the mural focuses on residents going back home for the evening, so I've included houses, flats, Parkhill and the Super tram.

The design was Sponsored by Howden House Limited & VINCI Facilities in Partnership with Sheffield City Council.
