International Day of Rural Women

Today we celebrate the critical role and contribution of women in enhancing agricultural and rural development, improving food security and eradicating rural poverty.

Held the day before World Food Day, International Day of Rural Women emphasizes the crucial contributions of rural women worldwide — from nurturing crops and tending to livestock, to ensuring their families have clean water, food and fuel.

We're proud to partner with WeForest whose projects support rural women through both income generation and entrepreneurship.

Their initiatives empower women like Medhin (pictured), who’s participating in WeForest’s sheep rearing programme in Desa’a Forest, Ethiopia. This assistance has provided her with a steady income to buy grain, household goods, clothes, school materials and repay her loans.

"Without the support of WeForest, my life would have been very destitute, coupled with the war crises,” says Medhin. “All good things for me come from WeForest. I hope this opportunity reaches everyone in this village and beyond."
