Effective Altruism

The New York Times commission Max Erwin for a concept piece on Sam Bankman-Fried's origins.

The feature states that the American entrepreneur and FTX founder joined Jane Street Capital not to learn about controlling risk, which is its focus, but because the tenets of a philanthropic movement drew him there.

Max's piece evokes chaos and downfall, he adds, "The article is about Sam Bankman-Fried's early career at Jane Street, a firm known for their risk management, and how he fell from grace after leaving there by ironically practicing poor risk management. The article also focuses on what drew him to Jane Street in the first place, which was his interest in Effective Altruism, which Jane Street had a social club for."
