The theme of the publication is Heroes of the Microscope, with Iratxe's art illustrating the profiles of Rita Levi, Leuwenhoek, Pasteur and Ramon y Cajal. Each of these figures, prominent in their own medical professions made notable findings: Rita Levi was an Italian Nobel laureate, honoured for her work in neurobiology, Leuwenhoek was a Dutch businessman and scientist known as 'the Father of Microbiology' and one of the first microscopists and microbiologists, Pasteur; a French biologist, microbiologist and chemist was renowned for his discoveries of the principles of vaccination, microbial fermentation and pasteurization and finally Ramón y Cajal, a Spanish neuroscientist and pathologist, specializing in neuroanatomy, particularly the histology of the central nervous system. The portraits are painted with a charm and respect using gouache and coloured pencils, giving a warm tactile feel.
