WF Central, in the heart of Beijing's Dongcheng district asked Ben to use his talents in customising products bought by the shoppers, he explains, "I divided my time between creating responsive artwork in the building and exploring the city's mesh of traditional and modern culture, from the overpowering contemporary shopping mecca of Wangfujing Street to the beautifully chaotic 'hutong' back streets, where chefs relaxed for five minutes, parents carried children on the backs of bikes and all kinds of fascinating visual curiosities fought for my attention. Using the material gathered during these trips around the Chinese capital, I customised unique products for customers and developed a three-wall mural, telling my story of the time spent in Beijing, creating some fascinating conversations with the locals. Unexpected brand collaborations with Nike, Adidas Y3, Vom Fass and Superdry emerged from the residency and the room transformed into a full living breathing, working studio."
