Details matter. For Brazilian children’s illustrator Evandro Marenda, every line, every area of hatching, every quirky little hieroglyphic is there to make children lean in, grow curious and devour the images before them. From there learning becomes fun and stories all the more enjoyable as young minds latch onto every detail in his illustrations.
Alongside his drawing skills and natural talent for making all subjects fascinating, Evandro brings vast experience to each project he tackles. He’s worked in-house as part of an illustration team, has freelanced for some Brazil’s biggest editorial and book publishers, and his work covers everything from early years through to middle-grade and young adult readers. Clients love his careful, professional, organised approach.
Much of his inspiration goes back to his own childhood. From factual programmes like Beakman’s World and BBC Eyewitness to the Animals of Farthing Wood and on to the Adventures of Tintin and Where’s Wally?, what Evandro grew up with informs his art, channelled by a degree in Graphic Design from the Federal University of Paraná.
Approach
Evandro begins with pencil on paper blocks for the initial stages of an image. The colouring and refining is carried out digitally with Procreate and then Photoshop, but his hand-drawn style always shines through.Key software

The imagery in Evandro’s portfolio has been likened to a visual atlas – it’s fun, curious, packed with little lines and marks that catch the eye and engage the mind, with the level of detail adjusted according to age group and brief.Languages
