Ode to Strangers

Rohan Eason works with humanitarian organisation ALIMA to visually convey compassion and connection in maternal health.

Rohan's commission for ALIMA captures the emotional depth of maternal health stories in Sub-Saharan Africa.

In this series, including four posters and two animations, his illustrations tell a powerful story of connection and resilience, highlighting the compassion of strangers who stepped in to make a difference.

Rohan had the freedom to use his mastery of ink to embrace imperfections - allowing smudges and mistakes to add character and honesty to the pieces.  This visual narrative honours the strength and vulnerability of mothers, as well as the quiet heroism of those who help, reminding us that 'you don’t need to be there to be there. You can be a stranger who cares'.
