WIA 2023 Shortlisters

Becca Thorne, Carles Garcia O'Dowd, Paperface and Season of Victory make it through to the next stage in this year's World Illustration Awards.

We're delighted to hear the news that our four longlisters in the World Illustration Awards are now on the shortlist!

Becca's experimentation pieces were selected in the Science & Technology category with a trio of original linocut prints, celebrating the plants and animals of small, semi-natural habitats. Becca says of the shortlist news, "It's a great feeling to receive industry recognition for work of which I'm so proud. A couple of years ago, I returned to full-time freelancing after a decade teaching illustration at university. It was daunting, but also exciting, and I started approaching my personal practice in a different way – much more for myself. I entered WIA last year for the first time in about 5 years, and was long-listed, so to be short-listed this year really helps solidify the feeling that I made the right choice!"

Carles' art for the Washington Post is on the political spam artists whose relentless pleas for money clog your inbox, and is shortlisted in the Editorial section. Paperface's fun packaging designs for Crown paint are a shortlister in the Design Product & Packaging section and Season of Victory's epic project for the Kiehl's Loves campaign is a contender in the Advertising category.

This is exciting news for all four artists, the final winners are announced on 12th September!
