The Art of Decluttering

The Washington Post commission Jonathan Allardyce to create a cover illustration and inside spot for their lifestyle magazine.

The feature was about the art of decluttering, arguing that our attachment to things is not as important as the memories they bring us; the things themselves are really burying us. Jonathan explains, "The art editor asked me to illustrate a dejected woman surrounded by an avalanche of stuff, followed by a second illustration of the same woman (calmer and happier) having finally dug her way out from under it. The idea evolved into an animated gif." Read the article.

The Lily (a product of The Washington Post) also used the artwork and asked Jonathan to adapt the illustration using their house colours, see it here.
