Megan Carter is a Brisbane-based illustrator whose aim is to brighten spaces and faces, and all the evidence says that she is achieving her mission. From vast murals to print and digital campaigns, Megan’s clear, colourful artwork cuts through with its uplifting spirit.
Hand-rendered lettering and a cartoony drawing style give Megan’s work a sense of natural creativity and individuality, which puts people at ease. The words themselves influence the style of the lettering and provide cues for the surrounding imagery for an instant impact.
Inspired by everyday things like conversations, the world around us, plants and wildlife, Megan’s illustrations are natural and relatable. There is an easy appeal to everything she creates.
Megan studied Graphic Design at the Southbank Institute of Technology and has a BA in Communication Design from Billy Blue College of Design in Australia.
Approach
Megan’s method is fascinating. Beginning with creative play – which even includes singing – she warms up her mind. Scribbling and quick painting with no intention gradually grow more focused as sketches form and a composition comes together. Eventually, she delivers a balanced piece – crisp and tidy. Her main tools are pencil, paper, an iPad Pro and Procreate.Styles
Working with Megan guarantees bright, colourful imagery with strong line work, interesting hand-rendered lettering, a clear message and a positive vibe. She works in a variety of styles to suit her clients’ campaigns.
