The Smell of Wonderland

Nouveau Nez is a new publishing house which specialises in books with a smell, aiding the narrative of the story and the reader's imagination. Anne was asked to illustrate three spreads for 'Alice in Wonderland', a book which will be presented at Bologna Book Fair this April. Anne continues, "Each spread from Alice will feature a smell to go with the image, for example for the caterpillar spread the reader will have the smell of pipe smoke alongside my image. It's such a fantastic concept and is exciting to be a part of! We are hoping to finish the book after Bologna. Let's see!" Nouvez Nez say - What would be the seaside, a garden or a hot chocolate without smell? Smell shapes every moment of our lives, connecting us to memories, emotions and the richness of the world around us. And if books can talk to all our other senses, why couldn't they also appeal to our noses? This is the challenge that inspired the team behind Nouveaux Nez. It is the first exclusively olfactory publishing house in the world, and the result of expert research and development into the science of olfaction, the subtle craft of fragrance-printing and, of course, passion for books and storytelling.
