Retro illustration for the London Matchgirls

The London Matchgirls

With the opening of The Poster Prize for Illustration exhibition at The London Transport Museum, Laura Greenan sees her piece, 'The London Matchgirls' exhibited.

Laura's illustration was chosen out of over 1500 entries to be exhibited at The London Transport Museum in Covent Garden as part of their London Stories exhibition with the AOI. The event celebrates one of the world’s greatest cities – London, and reveals some of the fascinating tales of London life past and present. Laura describes her entry, "My design illustrates the London match girls strike of 1888 when women from a matchstick factory in East London went on strike to protest against terrible working conditions, and then won!" The exhibition shows 100 illustrations and is on until 14th July 2019, more information here.
