Where the Wild Dads Went

'Where the Wild Dads Went' is the latest in Katie Blackburn’s brilliantly humorous adults’ version of Maurice Sendak’s 'Where the Wild Things Are', illustrated by Sholto Walker.

Published by Faber and Faber, the book follows on from Katie's very successful 2015 world-wide best-seller 'Where the Wild Mums Are', which Sholto also illustrated - but this time it’s for the dads. As before, the plot is loosely based on Sendak’s story, but instead of a child, it involves an inebriated dad who drifts off into an alcoholic slumber in front of the TV and finds himself at a drunken, impromptu party in an imaginary pub in the sky. Sholto explains, "The brief was to create a set of characters (not necessarily all particularly attractive!), covering a wide range of ‘dad types’ all of whom drift slowly into an increasing state of inebriation and drunken hysteria as the eighteen illustrations progress. As with Wild Mums, the brief was lots of fun, but quite challenging, requiring plenty of detail, colour, texture as well as multiple characters and characterisations." The book is for sale now.
