Meet Nick Davis, the rising star of American illustration who is based in St Petersburg, Florida. ‘Black is Beautiful’ is a common theme in Nick’s work and every image he creates celebrates his culture and identity via a positive narrative.
With his unique style, Nick has garnered a clientele that includes some of America’s biggest brands. They enjoy working with him because of the color and expression in his work – audiences can see a little of themselves in each of his illustrations. Sometimes he subverts the norm by turning normally white characters black.
Nick’s route into the art world is an interesting one – he’s always loved art but started diving deeper into it after being diagnosed with epilepsy. Taking inspiration from the likes of Jean-Michel Basquiat, Kerry James Marshall and Jacob Lawrence, while he works Nick often listens to Hip Hop, R&B or Jazz.

Working digitally using Procreate on his iPad, Nick aims to bring out the feeling and the story in his illustrations via his color palette – with texture and shading adding depth and tactility.Style
