Based in Guadalajara, Karen González is one of Mexico’s brightest illustration talents. Colourful and bold, with plenty of natural textures, her work is full of dynamism and often features strong women and contemporary themes. It’s no wonder Karen’s clients include leading brands in fashion publishing and retail.
Perhaps some of her success comes down to the fact that she’s also a trained animator and knows how to bring life and personality to an image. After a bachelor’s degree in Animation and Digital Art at Tec de Monterrey, she completed a masters in Concept Art for Animation at the prestigious Vancouver Film School.
Influenced by artists such as Matisse and the Spanish architect Gaudí, Karen uses strong forms to create her own visual language. She’s worked as a graphic designer, understands the creative process, and clients always appreciate the vision she brings to their projects.
Approach
While Karen likes to sketch in pencil, her illustrations are executed digitally using natural-style brushes for an organic, textured look. Her ability to add animated elements makes Karen the ideal choice for online campaigns.Style
Karen’s style is bold and graphic as she uses shape and colour to enhance the mood of each piece. She adapts her style according to the brief – ranging from painterly with Impressionist influences, to more playful and cartoony.
