A rising star in Portugal’s creative scene, Danika B is an illustrator and comic artist who delights young audiences with her charming and lively style. Inspired by Manga but with a colorful visual language all her own, Danika works her magic for publishing houses across Europe, creating imagery full of fantasy and intrigue.
She’s a delight to work with too, and clients love the way she puts her soul into every illustration, finding ways to deliver the best creative possible. Influences include Posuka Demizu and Kamome Shirahama on the Manga side, and Fernando Dias and BiboX from the worlds of animation and gaming.
With a degree in Multimedia Art from the College of Fine Arts in Lisbon, Danika immerses herself in the feeling of each story, allowing it to drive the visual narrative.
Approach
Preferring the feel of pen on paper, Danika sketches with a ballpoint letting the ideas flow until she understands the direction of the final drawing. She scans her final sketch into Photoshop, then carries out some color studies before rendering using chalk or colored pencil brushes for a unique, traditional feel.
Styles
Comic book and Manga influences are clear in Danika’s work, mixed with a sense of magic, fantasy and whimsical adventure. She produces monochrome inked illustrations for black and white comics, and a chalk or pencils style for full-color publications.
