Combining elements from nature with vibrant colours and whimsical characters and settings, Filipino artist Alyssa De Assis crafts illustrations with a unique, light-hearted feel to them. She’s a natural when it comes to children’s illustration, but her style also suits editorial, fashion and publishing projects.
“I just love incorporating flowers, leaves and other types of plants into my illustrations, and it fascinates me to create new worlds that are strongly influenced by nature,” she says.
With a background in graphic design and experience working in digital agencies, Alyssa understands things from the client’s perspective and will always find original ways of meeting her brief. As well as drawing, she loves photography, travel and discovering new cultures. Alyssa has a Bachelor degree in Fine Arts, majoring in Visual Design and Communication, from the St Scholastica College in Manila.
Approach
Working digitally in Photoshop, Alyssa’s favourites include the Brush and Pen tools, for establishing her line work. After drawing and painting digitally, she artfully layers in natural textures to give her work a real world and traditional feel.
Styles
Vibrant, fun and whimsical settings filled with sweet little hand-drawn characters are Alyssa’s speciality. Elements of nature fill each image with life, while some of her more conceptual illustrations range towards surrealism.
