Welcome to the electric world of Vince Ray, where Lowbrow artwork meets Rock n Roll mayhem. Flaming hotrods, skulls, valentines, guitars and vamp-ish women are all part of the rockabilly visual language Vince has built up over the years, making him ideal for projects with a retro edge.
Alongside his illustration work, Vince is a popular figure on the Lowbrow art scene, and his work is in heavy demand in the music industry. He customises guitars for companies like Fender, and has his own line in guitar strings and Screaming Zombie plectrums. Based in Hastings, he’s passionate about his 1950s car and motorcycle designs and the culture that surrounds them.
Vince received a BA in Fine Art Printmaking from the Maidstone School of Art and then attended the Slade School in London for an MA.
Approach
Vince loves working in Photoshop. Each piece starts with a black and white line drawing and after scanning the complete image comes together on the computer. However, he still likes to paint as well, using acrylics on canvas.Style
Vince’s style falls into the category of Lowbrow art. He draws inspiration from old retro graphic styles, tattoos, sign writing type, fairground graphics, old horror comics and Americana.
